Tickets for the 2024 Capital Fringe Festival are now on sale and the final full performance schedule is live online. $15 tickets can be purchased directly at capitalfringe.org.

This year’s productions are an array of original works that explore a spectrum of human experiences. They examine the angst on the eve of a presidential election, the joy of a budding relationship, acknowledging one’s own death, church as a dance club afloat somewhere in the universe, the history of Black firefighters in Washington, DC, flamenco to modern dance, and much more. All shows run for 50 to 75 minutes.

Show us your DC happy #happydcfringe
The theme of this year’s Fringe Festival revolves around “Happy.” How do we perceive and cherish moments of happiness in our lives today? What defines happiness in the nation’s capital? Is Washington, DC, truly a happy city? To explore these questions, we’ve issued an open call for images capturing happiness experienced in DC. These snapshots will be juxtaposed with archival images sourced from the Library of Congress. The culmination of this project will be a rotating display of photographs on a series of TVs installed in the windows of 1150 Connecticut Avenue NW through July 21, running for 24 hours each day. “Happy” is conceived and art directed by Julianne Brienza in collaboration with BellVisuals and the Exactly Agency.

Additionally, with the support of the Georgetown BID, Fringe will project images of happiness onto the facade of the former Georgetown Theatre, now Compass Coffee, at 1351 Wisconsin Avenue on Wednesday, July 17. The projection will be hosted from across the street outside of M.M.LaFleur, located at 1344 Wisconsin Avenue NW. The Fringe Happy Pop-up event will commence at 6pm with “happy” music, and the projection will run from 8:45pm to 10:30pm.

This year’s festival is made possible with the support of our partners, notably the Golden Triangle BID and our esteemed venue partners: the Edlavitch DCJCC, Theater J, and Blake Real Estate. It will take place across four unoccupied retail properties nestled within the Golden Triangle BID boundaries and utilize two additional stages at the Edlavitch DCJCC and Theater J.

As we prepare for our 17th annual festival, we would be remiss not to highlight that Capital Fringe has existed for 19 years, so this is our organization’s final teenage year. Capital Fringe’s annual Fringe Festival is the only unjuried, self-producing live performance festival in the Washington, DC, area. Since 2005, we have presented 17 festivals featuring over 52,700 artists to an audience of 393,234 ticket buyers. The festival has generated over $2.7 million in artist revenue.
